In June 2023, the Orchestral Qawwali Project delivered a stirring fusion of Sufi qawwali and Western classical music at London’s Camden Roundhouse. The show featured an ambitious ensemble—including full orchestra, choir, tabla, harmonium, and Indian classical dance—creating a spellbinding spiritual experience. Highlights included dancers Vidya Patel and Nandita Shakardass and powerful renditions of timeless pieces like “Dam Mast Qalandar,” merging choral Kyrie-style openings, soaring strings, percussion, and ecstatic crescendos. Nearly 2000 audience members were on their feet throughout the show as they were enveloped in a magical sound.
